Last year saw the opening of five new schools as part of the first phase of the project, and by the end of 2015 another eight will have opened their doors. September 2014 saw the opening of the first of the new builds – Ercall Wood Technology College, a secondary school based in the town of Wellington with over 900 pupils on the books.
Only the best facilities and equipment
Part of the Building Schools for the Future programme is an insistence on only the highest quality equipment, facilities and technology for the new schools. Ercall Wood Technology College has been built to the highest standards, with special attention going into everything from their brand new cricket pitch to their choice of school water cooler.
MIW Office Solutions was contacted by Shepherd Construction, the company charged with building the new school, to supply a range of drinking fountains for the new build. TheHalsey Taylor HTHB-HAC8 school bottle filler was the product of choice, offering the performance and reliability needed to keep over 900 students happy and hydrated on a daily basis.
The HTHB-HAC8 will dispense up to 1.5 gallons of chilled water every minute, and features both a regular bubbler tap and bottle filler. This means no lengthy queues in between lessons or at lunch time, as a regular 500ml drinks bottle can be filled with cool water in only 5 seconds. On top of this, innovative features like an inlet strainer and silver ion microbial protection prevent any debris or bacteria from contaminating the inner waterways, ensuring that pupils will enjoy only clean, fresh water.
Keeping pupils hydrated at schools
The Building Schools for the Future project is designed to encourage pupils to work to the best of their abilities, which is why they have cut no corners when it comes to computers, sports facilities and their choice of school water cooler. Regular hydration is important for all of us, but especially so for younger children who are still developing and who become dehydrated far more quickly than adults. Just a 2% loss in hydration can cause impaired physical functioning and a loss of concentration, which is why it is recommended that we drink 6-8 glasses of water a day.
Do you think that the brand new facilities at Ercall Wood Technology College will encourage pupils to work harder and fulfil their potential? Could your own school benefit from a new bottle filler like the HTHB-HAC8? If so, get in touch with our friendly sales staff today!
