Lewisham Council Purchases Two More Water Fill Up Stations

Don’t you just love it when a happy customer keeps coming back for more? Back in 2018, MIW and our global partner Elkay worked with Lewisham Council as part of the #OneLess Project. We installed bottle refill station in Ladywell Fields and Beckenham Place Park. The council was so pleased with the work that they approached us again in April 2019. At that point, they were looking for two more water fill up stations for Manor Park and Luxmore Gardens. And they upgraded to slightly more advanced models of bottle fillers within the Halsey Taylor Endura II range. Both with an inbuilt drinking fountain, one with an integrated water cooler for dogs!

Now, Lewisham Borough Council is at it again! As part of the council’s ongoing sustainability drive and efforts to reduce the amount of waste single-use plastic bottles in the borough, two new water fill up stations have been ordered for Blythe Hill Fields and Fordham Park.

Blythe Hill Fields and Fordham Park

A lot of thought has gone into the positioning of the two new Lewisham water bottle fillers.

Situated behind a school, Fordham Park is frequented by lots of children and families. Following a major regeneration project in 2010, which saw a whole range of new facilities incorporated into the space, the only thing missing has been a drinking fountain.

While Blythe Hill Fields has been one of the borough’s beauty spots since 1935, the new bottle filler is hoped to help combat the litter that beauty spots inevitably attract. This also assists the Friends of Blythe Hill Fields to keep the area looking as beautiful as it always has done, especially during the annual festival.

In both locations, the new bottle filler will help visitors to save a bit of money allowing them to refill rather than replace when they’re enjoying the scenery.

HALSEY TAYLOR 4420BF1U ENDURA II TUBULAR OUTDOOR BOTTLE FILLING STATION

For the new locations, Lewisham Council selected the Halsey Taylor 4420BF1U.  This model was customised by MIW with additional freeze protection and bottle counters, as well as bespoke paintwork and branding. The drinking water dispenser is WRAS (Water Regulations Advisory Scheme) approved, easy to maintain and easy to use. The in-built drinking fountain is positioned in order to accommodate children and adults of all physical abilities, including wheelchair users. The machine is also vandal resistant and GreenSpec listed for its sustainability credentials.

Waste plastic continues to be a major environmental concern. When Lewisham’s first water bottle refill stations were installed by MIW in July 2018, it was grabbing all of the headlines. Today, waste plastic is old news, but no less important. That’s why it’s so lovely to see organisations like Lewisham Borough Council continuing to play their part in the fight, with sustainability investment.
